Antilles High School Pirates Share Kindness with Fort Buchanan Fire Department
Antilles High School’s Pirate Kindness Ambassadors once again turned compassion into action with their latest outreach project, a heartfelt Valentine’s Day initiative dedicated to the Fort Buchanan Fire Department. In the days leading up to the holiday, students worked together to create handmade Valentine’s Day cards designed to lift spirits and express gratitude to the firefighters who faithfully serve and protect our community.
The project extended beyond the ambassador group itself. During the school’s Crafts Flex session, many additional students joined the effort, carefully decorating cards, writing encouraging messages, and personalizing each one. The activity became a school-wide moment of service, allowing students to reflect on the importance of appreciation, community connection, and kindness toward others.
On Friday the 13th, a group of Pirate Kindness Ambassadors visited the Fort Buchanan fire station to personally deliver the cards, along with lollipops and chocolate kisses as small tokens of appreciation. The firefighters warmly welcomed the students, taking time to speak with them about their work and responsibilities. As an added highlight, the students were given a guided tour of the fire truck, an experience that was both exciting and educational.
This student-led initiative was organized by Ambassador Jaylanis C., whose leadership helped bring the project to life. She was supported by Ambassador mentors Ms. Costa, Military Family Life Counselor, and Ms. DÃaz, Information Specialist at Antilles High School. Together, they guided students in planning, preparing, and carrying out the visit, reinforcing leadership skills and service learning.
The Pirate Kindness Ambassador program continues to emphasize empathy, gratitude, and civic responsibility. Through projects like this, students learn that even small acts—such as a handwritten card or a simple thank-you—can make a meaningful difference. Antilles High School is proud of its students for representing the Pirate community with generosity and heart, and extends sincere appreciation to the Fort Buchanan Fire Department for their dedication to keeping our community safe every day.
